Setup

Setting Up the Map

The map is Triskell shaped.

  1. Locate the Capital Tile. Place it at the center of the table.
  2. Locate the Bandit Tiles. Place them around the Capital Tile. Bandit Tiles flee toward the Capital Tile.
  3. Locate the remaining Wolf Tiles. They should be placed so that the Valley Tile allows fleeing toward the Wolf Tribe ’s Bandit Tile and the Cordillera Tile toward the Valley Tile.
  4. Locate the remaining Cat Tiles. They should be placed so that the Meadow Tile allows fleeing toward the Cat Tribe ’s Bandit Tile and the Farmland Tile toward the Meadow Tile.
  5. Locate the remaining Fox Tiles. They should be placed so that the Thicket Tile allows fleeing toward the Fox Tribe ’s Bandit Tile and the Timberland Tile toward the Thicket Tile.

Setting Up Seasons.

  1. Split the Laws into 3 decks, one per Faction (Cat Laws, Fox Laws, and Wolf Laws). Shuffle each deck.
  2. Decide whether to have an extended game (9 Seasons) or a standard one (6 Seasons).
  3. For each Season except the last one, create a deck of one Law per Faction.
  4. Locate the Coronation Ceremony Workplace, keep it visible on the table.
  5. Split the other Workplaces into 3 decks, one per tier (Commoner, Artisan, and Noble). Shuffle each deck.
  6. Create the Seasonal Workplace Pool of each Season: for each Player, add 3 Commoner Workplaces, 3 Artisan Workplaces, and 3 Noble Workplaces to each.

Setting Up the Bandits

  1. Locate the Bandit Growth card, keep it visible on the table.
  2. Place Bandits according to the Bandit Growth, starting by the current a random Faction’s Bandit Camp. All these Bandits are level 1.

Setting Up Shared Components

  1. Place the Player Turn Order board somewhere visible to all players.
  2. Optionally, place helper cards next to the component they are relevant to.

Setting Up Players

Each player:

  1. Takes their Player Cubes .
  2. Places a Resources Board in front of them.
  3. Places a Council Bribe Tracker in front of them.
  4. Takes their level 1 Knights and places them in their Castle.
  5. Gains 1 Extra Resource per player in the game.
  6. Gains 1 Worker of each Tribe.
  7. Gains 4 Wheats , 4 Trees , and 4 Stones .

Players have to be able to own 9 Workplace cards, arranged in a 3x3 grid.

Starting

Randomly choose the Player Turn Order, denoted by each player having their Cube in that order, clockwise from the .

In turn order, each player gains 1 Worker the Tribe of their choice and 1 Experience , immediately either turning it into an additional Extra Resource or upgrading 1 Knight .
